January movement at Paraná ports set a new record for the month. There were 4.208.706 tons of cargo loaded and unloaded at the Ports of Paranaguá and Antonina. The volume is 1% higher than the 4.157.538 tons in the same period in 2022.

In exports, the highlights were corn, up 189% in January this year compared to January last year, bran (soy and corn, up 17%), sugar (15%), soy oil and petroleum derivatives (in January 2022 there were no shipments of these products).

In imports, wheat (93%), barley/malt (26%), salt (100%), methanol (67%), vegetable oils and petroleum derivatives led the increases – the latter did not arrive in Paraná last year.

“The increase recorded among bulk cargo was what contributed most to the new increase”, informs the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. “Solid bulk materials alone represent almost 60% of everything moved during the month. The segment handled 2.475.456 tons, 2% more than last year”, he adds.

Among liquid bulk, the increase was 12% in the comparison between January 2022 and 2023. This year, there were 722.073 tons. Last year, 644.939.

In the general cargo segment, which represents cargo shipped per unit, 1.011.177 tons were handled. The volume is 7% lower than the 1.088.747 tons recorded in January 2022. The drop was mainly impacted by the reduction in the volumes of sugar in bags and cellulose, in the export direction.

Vehicle movements registered an increase of 395%. This year, 8.095 units were loaded and unloaded through the Port of Paranaguá, compared to 1.634 units in the first month of last year. Of the total in 2023, 6.975 vehicles were exported and 1.120 units were imported.

Containers did not move differently than last year. There were 88.038 TEUs handled – 47.561 TEUs for export and another 40.477 TEUs for import.
