Paraná leads grain harvest growth in 2025

Paraná recorded the largest positive variation in estimates for grain agricultural production in Brazil for 2025, according to data released this Wednesday (10) by the IBGE. The increase was 447 thousand tons compared to the May survey, a performance 150% higher than that recorded by Bahia, the second-placed state in the national ranking, whose variation was 177 thousand tons. With the estimated increase, the state's current grain harvest should be approximately 45,3 million tons, according to the federal agency.

With this growth, Paraná maintains its second-place position in the national grain production ranking, with a 13,6% share, behind only Mato Grosso (31,5%). Paraná still accounts for more than half of the grain harvest in the Southern region, which is equivalent to 25,4% of Brazilian production.

The new IBGE figures reinforce the importance of Paraná's agriculture in some of the sector's most important chains. With an estimated volume of 865,3 tons, Paraná is Brazil's largest bean producer, and also a clear leader in national barley production, with an estimated 423 tons, representing 77,5% of the country's harvest.

The State still accounts for 33,6% of Brazilian wheat production, with 2,7 million tons, and ranks 2nd in national soybean production, with 21,3 million tons, and second-crop corn, with 16,5 million tons.

Recovery  

Despite small monthly variations in some crops, the numbers point to a solid recovery compared to 2024 performance, which was negatively impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Barley, for example, saw growth of 47,3% compared to last year. Meanwhile, in beans—whose production in three harvests is expected to fully meet Brazil's domestic demand by 2025—Paraná leads with a 26,8% national share, an estimated 4,2% higher than the previous cycle. Wheat also saw annual growth of 13,5%, while soybeans saw a 14,2% increase. Second-crop corn production saw growth of 31,7%.

Another highlight is the oat crop, which is expected to reach 248 tons, a 48,9% increase compared to 2024. The average crop yield grew 39,4%, reaching 2.441 kilos per hectare, which strengthens the crop especially in the South and South-Central regions of the state.

With the latest results, Paraná is consolidating itself as one of the main drivers of growth in Brazilian agribusiness, whose national grain harvest is currently estimated at 333,3 million tons in 2025. The state is one of the six largest agricultural powers in the country – alongside Mato Grosso, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais –, which together account for 79,5% of the national harvest.

LSPA 

The Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA) has been conducted monthly by the IBGE since 1972 and gathers estimates of planted and harvested area, productivity, and total volume for the country's main crops. The survey serves as a benchmark for producers, markets, and public administrators in agricultural production planning. The next release of the survey, with July data, will be on August 14th.
