The Department of Rural Economy of Paraná (Deral) released today (April 7th) the Weather and Crop Conditions bulletin for the week of March 31st to April 6th. Among the highlights is corn, with the harvest of the first crop in its final phase and the planting of the second crop already completed in most of the state.

The first crop generally shows good yields. The second corn crop (safrinha) had its initial development favored by rainfall in some areas. However, irregular rainfall and high temperatures have been compromising the productive potential in several regions, with reports of localized losses.

There are also occurrences of pests, especially caterpillars, requiring intensified management. In areas where drought persists, producers report greater concern about more significant losses.

Soybean

The harvest is practically finished in Paraná. Despite generally positive results, there is great variability in productivity, impacted by adverse weather conditions throughout the cycle, such as water deficit and the need for replanting in some areas. Regions most affected by drought recorded yields below expectations.

Rice and beans

The irrigated rice harvest is progressing as expected. However, prices remain low, reducing producer profitability.

The second-crop beans are mostly in the flowering and fruiting stages. Although some crops have benefited from recent rains, drought in several regions has reduced yield potential, affecting plant size and limiting practices such as topdressing and phytosanitary management.

Potato and cassava

The areas where potatoes are being planted for the second crop are undergoing soil preparation, with management underway to enable planting within the recommended window. Cassava harvesting is proceeding without operational obstacles, but there is reduced productivity in areas with longer cycles due to adverse weather conditions and the incidence of pests and diseases.

Coffee and sugarcane

Coffee crops are in an advanced stage of fruiting, with cultivation practices focused on quality. In some regions, ripening has already begun, with harvesting expected in the coming weeks.

Sugarcane cultivation continues with regular activities, both in harvested and developing areas, without significant disruptions.

Sorghum

The crops are in their early stages, with germination and growth favored by recent rains. Even so, irregular rainfall could compromise establishment in areas with lower water retention.

Tangerine

The ponkan harvest is still in its early stages, with expectations of progressing in the second half of April as the fruits ripen.

Pastures

The pastures are developing well, with a high supply of green mass, favoring the feeding of the herd and the management of beef and dairy systems.
