Ourofino Agrociência reinforces sustainability in partnership with Campo Limpo

Focused on expanding sustainable processes, Ourofino Agrociência strengthens its operations in this regard by opening a space for the reception and storage of packaging resulting from reverse logistics managed by inpEV – Instituto Nacional de Processamento de Embalagens Vazias and processed by Campo Limpo. In operation from this 29th, the tarpaulin warehouse is installed within the company's manufacturing complex, located in Uberaba (MG).

With the partnership with Campo Limpo, Ourofino will largely use packaging produced with 85% High Density Polyethylene – HDPE, post-consumer recycled (RPC). In other words, packaging removed from the field.

The company's sustainable objectives have existed for some time and have already led to improvements in operational processes and new internal directions. Some of the results related to sustainability are measured in the company's latest annual report, covering the period from April 2020 to March 2021 (corporate year). The intensity of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, for example, fell significantly (-29,2%) only with practices to reduce the use of vehicles and energy consumption.

Rethinking the production process, based on improvements implemented in the same time period considered in the report, led to a 45,7% decrease in the amount of industrial effluents generated by Ourofino Agrociência. Among the changes applied are the expansion of the reuse of cleaning water and standardization of the setup process for the manufacturing lines. Now, through the partnership with Campo Limpo, the company reinforces its commitment to maintaining a focus on sustainable projects contributing to the future of Brazilian agribusiness.

“For Ourofino Agrociência, growth is only valid when supported by solid foundations, and sustainability is one of these pillars for strengthening the company and the sector as a whole. Therefore, we invest and bet on different possibilities to expand our contribution”, comments Barbara Mendes, director of Procurement at the industry.

Barbara also reinforces that installing the warehouse within the complex promotes other gains. “In addition to maintaining our commitment to the environment, we will even be able to avoid supply failures and logistical changes.”

According to Rogério Fernandes, operations director at Campo Limpo, “this type of partnership benefits the sector and increases value to the chain with more sustainable packaging that uses only 15% virgin raw material in its composition. The Campo Limpo System, of which Campo Limpo is part, with the production of Ecoplástica packaging and Ecocap lids, avoided the emission of 823 thousand tons of carbon dioxide”, he points out.

In total, more than 620 thousand tons of pesticide packaging has been correctly disposed of since 2002, when the work began, according to data from the National Institute of Empty Packaging Processing - inpEV.
