The Brazilian Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Unica) and the Brazilian Sugarcane Producers Association Organization (Orplana) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this month, consolidating a new level for Consecana-SP – the main reference point in the relationship between producers and industry in the state of São Paulo.
According to the institutions, the agreement has two main focuses: the full implementation of the technical and economic revision of the model, based on work developed by the Center for Agribusiness Studies of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV Agro), and the modernization of the governance of Consecana-SP, with more stable rules for the entire chain. The technical and economic criteria will be updated, and the representation of industry and producers in sector decisions will be strengthened, with the consolidation of the sugarcane producer's participation in the model.
"This agreement represents the maturity of our sector. Industry and producers reaffirm that they know how to build together. And that's what makes us a benchmark," stated Evandro Gussi, CEO of Unica. The chairman of the board of Orplana added: "Orplana has always defended technical rigor and parity governance. This MoU honors these two principles and opens a promising cycle for the sector," he concluded.
The signing ceremony is scheduled for the 3rd edition of the Cana Summit, an event promoted by Orplana in Ribeirão Preto on April 16th at 11 am.
