In October, the number of market openings for agricultural products reached the second highest result in the historical series in international trade. In the last 31 days, 34 new opportunities were opened in 12 countries, a number close to that recorded throughout the whole of 2019, when 35 openings were recorded. The performance is only behind September of this year, which reached a record of 55 new markets in 14 countries.

The openings covered several production chains, with emphasis on cotton lint and seed destined for Saudi Arabia; corn, sorghum, soybean and brachiaria seeds for Gabon; setaria seeds for Colombia; cocoa beans and yerba mate for the countries of the Eurasian Union (Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan); sheep and goat semen and embryos for Cuba; macadamia nuts for Japan; and sheep and goat meat for Qatar, among others.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply's Secretariat of Trade and International Relations, in the last 10 months, Brazil has achieved 192 market openings in 48 destinations. Since the beginning of 2023, the period in which President Lula's third term began and Minister Carlos Fávaro's management at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply began, Brazil has reached a total of 270 markets in 61 countries.

“The opening of new markets is proof that Brazil has attributes that are in demand today, such as health, sustainability, competitiveness and reliability of the Brazilian health service and production sector, recognized in more than 200 nations and territories. This result is the fruit of the joint work of many, under the leadership of Ministers Carlos Fávaro and Mauro Vieira, with emphasis on our agricultural attachés in bilateral trade negotiations. More than 65% of the openings during this administration occurred in posts where we have attachés, and, with the expansion from 29 to 40 posts, many more records are certainly to come,” highlighted the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, Luis Rua.

The expansion of international markets has been fundamental to the growth of Brazilian exports. In September, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached a record US$ 14,19 billion in foreign sales, representing an increase of 3,6% compared to the same period in 2023. In the last twelve months, from October 2023 to September 2024, the sector's exports totaled US$ 166,19 billion, registering an increase of 1,8% compared to the US$ 163,19 billion exported in the previous twelve months.
