Normandy producers participate in Cashew Field Day

This month, the “Field Day on Orchard Management and Seedling Production Techniques”, brought together more than 100 participants, including rural producers, indigenous rural producers, researchers and rural technical assistance technicians and extensionists, to participate in practical activities of exercise and management of cashew tree pruning. The event took place in the municipality of Normandia (RR). 

The program was divided into two stages, the first being in the period at the Afonso de Souza Production Center, at Chácara dos Fredericos, owned by Diliana Frederico, located at Vicinal 2, lot 49. There, producers had the opportunity to learn about experiences with cultivation of cashew in the region, presented by the Iater technician, Expedito Cavalcante da Cruz, and by the owner of Chácara dos Fredericos, Diliane Frederico, who highlighted that she believed in Embrapa Roraima when starting the planting of the dwarf cashew tree. 

"I felt difficult at the beginning, as my plantation was not irrigated, but with effort we are here today", he recalls. Then, agronomist Patrícia Liany de Oliveira Fernandes, from Apodi/RN, gave a lecture on the management of dwarf cashew trees in the field, including the practice of pruning cashew trees and collecting tips for the production of grafted seedlings.

While in the second stage, lectures were held on the Conservation of Genetic Resources of the cashew tree, given by Ana Cecilia Ribeiro De Castro, from Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical, and by Patrícia Liany de Oliveira Fernandes, addressing the management of the dwarf cashew tree. To define the schedule, a practice exercise was carried out, led by assistant João José Silva Oliveira, from Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical.

The event was held by Embrapa Roraima in partnership with Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical, Institute of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Iater), Municipal Secretariat of Agriculture of Normandia, Municipal City Hall of Normandia and with the Agriculture Commission, through the Legislative Assembly of State of Roraima (ALE-RR).
