Nematode management targeting the Production System shows greater productivity gains for the producer

The parasite attaches itself to the roots of the plant and is invisible to the farmer's eyes.

A pioneer in the biological market in Brazil for nematode control, FMC, an agricultural science company, carried out a study that measured the effect on productivity of the bionematicicide Presence in the management of nematodes in soybean and corn succession. Presence nematicide was applied to treat seeds before planting.

The result showed a productivity gain of 4,1 bags per hectare in soybeans and 9,4 bags per hectare in corn, when Presence was applied to seed treatment in both crops, within the soybean-corn succession system. These gains were greater than the results of the product used alone in any of the crops. As the table shows:

Phytonematodes, considered agricultural pests, are parasites that can be found in large concentrations in the soil, when they attach to plant roots, causing death or reducing root activity, affecting water absorption and nutrient utilization. In addition to the damage caused to the root system, they can inject toxic substances into the plant cell and promote an imbalance in the physiology of the crop. Because it is microscopic, it is only when the root tissues darken and form galls that the producer notices the problem, leading to productivity losses.

A survey carried out in 2015 by the Brazilian Society of Nematology revealed that nematodes cause losses of R$35 billion per year to Brazilian agribusiness, of which R$16 billion in soybean production alone.

Easy to use, FMC's Presence bionematicicide is used to treat seeds and can be used on all crops that have problems with the attack of this parasite. Bionematicide, in addition to protecting crops against attack by nematodes, has other benefits such as: a growth-promoting effect, providing greater plant development and vigor and an increase in soil enzymatic activity related to the cycling of nutrients such as nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorus.
