Movements at Rio Grande do Sul ports grow 7,48% in January

With 326 vessels received in January, the port complex of Rio Grande do Sul closed the first month of 2025 with an increase in movements. Together, the units managed by Portos RS totaled 3.562.589 tons, with emphasis on Rio Grande, which saw a growth of 9,44% compared to the same period last year.

When added together, the operations carried out at the public dock in Rio Grande do Sul and at the terminals operating in the industrial district reached a total of 3.450.632 tons. As for the cargo segment, solid bulk represents 57,3% of the total handled. Next comes general cargo, with 35% representation, and liquid bulk, with 7,7%.

Regarding growth in movements, sulfate cargoes stood out the most in the period, with an increase of 613,43%. Phosphates also showed an increase in their operations and achieved growth of 187,11%. Meat cargo movements registered a positive variation of 39,27% ​​and cellulose another 29,92%.

Another activity that maintained its growth trend was container handling. Compared to the same period in 2024, the Rio Grande do Sul port complex recorded an increase of 46,27% and reached a total movement of 84.643 TEUs, a unit of measurement corresponding to a 20-foot container.

Exports in this first month were destined for Vietnam (449.266t), China (403.103t), Saudi Arabia (131.329t), South Korea (120.336t) and the United States (89.356t). Imports originated from China (267.743t), Argentina (184.714t), Peru (57.537t), Norway (54.253t) and the United States (50.924t).

Pelotas

At the Port of Pelotas, operations reached 89.093 tons. Wood logs, used for the production of cellulose, were responsible for the majority of these movements and reached 86.302 tons. Clinker, which is cement in its raw manufacturing phase, accounted for 2.791 tons moved in January.

Porto Alegre

The capital's public dock registered the movement of 28.864 tons. Inputs for the production of fertilizers are the main products received by the unit and totaled 12.819 tons in January. Wheat comes next, with a movement of 10.743 tons and salt shipments ended the month with 5.302 tons.
