Mosaic cuts phosphate production after quarterly loss

Mosaic reported a net loss of $273 million in the second quarter of 2026. In the same period of 2025, the company had a profit of $411 million. Revenue totaled $2,8 billion, while adjusted EBITDA reached $407 million.

The company attributed the result to lower fertilizer sales and increased raw material costs. The availability and price of sulfur affected the phosphate and Mosaic Fertilizantes segments.

In Brazil, Mosaic Fertilizantes sold 1,5 million tons, compared to 2,2 million tons a year earlier. The segment posted an operating loss of $41 million. Adjusted EBITDA fell from $159 million to $60 million.

The company has begun halting production of basic fertilizers in the country. The animal nutrition unit in Cajati remains operational. The cost of converting phosphates has risen from $84 to $141 per ton.

In the United States, Mosaic reduced phosphate production. The Faustina plant halted operations. The Bartow unit is operating at 40% of its planned annual capacity. The segment sold 1,4 million tons and posted an operating loss of $104 million.

Sulfur contracts for the third quarter reached $705 per long ton. The effect should appear in the fourth quarter results.

The potash segment sold two million tons. Adjusted EBITDA totaled $278 million, the same value as the second quarter of 2025. Mosaic projects annual production close to nine million tons.

The company has reduced its investment forecast for 2026 from $1,25 billion to $1,2 billion.
