Bayer opens its first own store
This is an experimental project by the company to expand its range of solutions in the third largest agribusiness hub
Brazilian agribusiness has been the subject of studies and research aimed at contributing to the neutralization of carbon emissions by 2030. According to the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, the adoption of techniques such as Crop, Livestock and Forestry Integration in soybean cultivation and livestock farming can play a crucial role in this process.
In this context, the company Morro Verde, which seeks to anticipate market demands, aims to become the first Brazilian carbon neutral fertilizer company by 2025. According to information released to the press, the company records a 90% smaller carbon footprint compared to market alternatives, which gives it an advantage in generating carbon credits and positioning itself before customers.
Felipe Holzhacker Alves, President of the Board of Directors of Morro Verde, highlights that the company has become a reference in the production of sustainable fertilizers, aimed at low-carbon agriculture in the 21st century, and emphasizes the company's commitment to the balance between ecosystems, the soil regeneration and the relationship between production and consumption.
Morro Verde is currently in the process of auditing its carbon inventory, aiming to generate the necessary credits with partner companies. At the same time, it seeks to reduce its own carbon footprint to increase the decarbonization capacity of its products.
Furthermore, the company is implementing other important actions, such as the energy transition to sustainable matrices. Investments have already been made in a biodigester, distribution lines and adjustments to electrical installations, connecting part of the demand from its main unit to the National Interconnected System. The Board of Directors approved the investment for the implementation of its own renewable energy plant, with biogas storage capacity, aiming to meet 100% of the company's energy needs.
With regard to mobility, Morro Verde is negotiating with the main suppliers to adapt its fleet of trucks, excavators, loaders and other mobile equipment to the use of biogas as fuel, demonstrating its commitment to reducing emissions carbon in all its operations.
Another key point is the Córrego do Prata Project, initiated by Morro Verde in 2017. Through this project, the company recovers degraded areas and riparian forests on the main rivers in the region where it operates. In partnership with the Public Ministry and the Executive Branch, more than 45 thousand seedlings and trees were planted, helping with the environmental and land regularization of small local producers. The company plans to expand this program to new areas, focusing on the recovery of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) and the creation of new protected areas.
In addition to complying with its legal and regulatory obligations, Morro Verde is carrying out surveys in its surroundings to identify areas of native forest that can be used as ecological corridors to preserve biodiversity. These projects will be structured to generate carbon credits.
