Bayer is open to science-based discussions about the safety profile of glyphosate with regulatory agencies around the world, the international research community and the general public. To this end, a further 107 new glyphosate safety study reports belonging to Bayer and which were submitted to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), as part of the substance authorization process in the European Union (EU), can now be accessed on dedicated transparency platform from Bayer, which already had more than 300 studies on the product. By including more studies on the safety of its crop protection products on the platform, the company is fulfilling its commitment to transparency. Many of these and similar studies were also submitted to and evaluated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency during its own glyphosate risk assessment.
"Transparency is a catalyst for trust, so more transparency is a good thing for consumers, politicians, decision makers and businesses. As an innovation company, security is our top priority and we are fully committed to doing everything whatever we can to ensure our products are safe for people and the environment," said Liam Condon, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG and President of the Crop Science Division. "By making our detailed safety science data publicly available, we encourage all interested parties to see for themselves how comprehensive our approach to safety is. We are open to dialogue and hope this contributes to greater confidence in sound science."
This new addition to the Bayer Transparency website follows the publication last December of more than 300 summaries of glyphosate safety studies submitted in the EU substance authorization process for crop protection products. All detailed studies on the safety of glyphosate wholly owned by Bayer are now available.
Due to legal restrictions, Bayer cannot disclose glyphosate studies performed by and owned by third parties. For additional information, visit our page common questions.
Bayer reaffirms the safety of glyphosate and will continue to defend its products based on the substance. The company is working diligently to ensure that discussions surrounding glyphosate are accurate and will continue to share information about the consistent body of scientific evidence that confirms that glyphosate and glyphosate-based products are safe when used as recommended and that do not cause cancer.
