The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) continues to monitor the cloud of locusts moving within Argentine territory. On Monday, July 20, Argentina's National Agro-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) reported that the cloud moved from the province of Corrientes to Entre Rios and is 100 kilometers from the border with Uruguay.
Regarding the news about a possible arrival of the cloud in Brazil this week due to the increase in temperature, Mapa clarifies that this is a factor that cannot be considered in isolation. To date, predictions remain that the insects will continue to move towards the south, with no forecast of the occurrence of a set of climate changes (temperature x humidity x wind direction/speed) that would favor their entry into Brazil.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), winds in the region will remain in a North-South direction in the coming days, indicating a likely direction of the cloud towards Uruguay.
Mapa's technical team in Brasília remains on alert together with the Federal Superintendencies of Agriculture (SFAs) and the State Agricultural Defense Bodies in both states and in permanent contact with Senasa to monitor the movement of the locust cloud and the preparation of control measures in a timely manner, if necessary.
