Modern practices in soybean management guarantee high profitability

The rice producer in Rio Grande do Sul today finds a great opportunity in crop rotation with soybeans to ensure financial sustainability. The oilseed has good prices due to the favorable exchange rate and great demand on the international market, mainly in China. In the opinion of agronomist and Bayer consultant, Jorge Verde, the rotation carried out by Rio Grande do Sul producers can provide much greater sustainability and truly develop the potential of both crops.

The expert, who will be one of the speakers at the Technical Forum within the program of the 26th Official Opening of the Rice Harvest, in Alegrete (RS), considers the rotation carried out by rice farmers in the State to be positive. He states that the repetition of the same crop for many years can increase the problem of pests in crops, which is why he highlights the importance of rotation, since the diseases that attack the roots of soybean leaves are not the same as those that affect the rice. “Sometimes the producer does not use the nutrients necessary for the development of the plant well and in crop rotation, for each bag of soybeans, enough nitrogen is left to give the rice good nutrition. And the straw also helps to provide a good nutrient condition for the oilseed that is cultivated the following year. With this, the two cultures complement each other and guarantee more results”, he explains.

With the theme "Innovations in Management Practices to obtain High Yields in Soybean Culture", the lecture that will take place on Thursday, February 18th, at 17:40 pm, at Parque Lauro Dornelles, will feature a step-by-step guide to modern practices of crop management. Verde highlights that in general, soybean farmers in Rio Grande do Sul have invested in cultivars with extreme productive potential and, using the management practices that will be discussed, will guarantee quality planting.

The consultant highlights the importance of the chemical condition of the soil to achieve more established roots with the opportunity to absorb the fertilizer applied to nourish the plant. “In the lecture we will discuss how the producer can check all the investment made, through a type of blood test from the crop, which consists of taking a sample of the leaves at the stage in which the plant begins to bloom and sending it to the laboratory that interprets how the necessary nutrients are and if any adjustments are needed so that the plant can actually have a grain weight capacity”, he explains.

According to Verde, producers who attend the lecture will learn about the main practices and technologies for soybean cultivation. “I have had the opportunity to visit the main soybean producing states in Brazil, and assimilated a lot of experience of what producers are actually using to develop maximum yield potential in soybean cultivation”, he adds.

The twenty-sixth Official Opening of the Rice Harvest, which takes place from the 18th to the 20th of February, is organized by the Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz) and the Alegrete Rice Growers Association, with the support of the Rural Union of Alegrete and Alegrete City Hall.
