The Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa) published today Resolution No. 101, of the Interministerial Rural Insurance Management Committee, which changes the distribution of the R$1,15 billion budget of the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR) for the year 2024.
Of the total available, R$ 210 million will be applied exclusively in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, to support the contracting of approximately 31 thousand policies that will benefit approximately 22 thousand producers, in an insured area of 1 million hectares and a total value insured of R$9,5 billion.
Furthermore, producers in Rio Grande do Sul will also be able to count on another advantage when taking out rural insurance. The percentage of subsidy to the premium for soybean cultivation will be 30% in municipalities in a state of emergency and 40% in municipalities in a state of calamity. For other activities, the percentage of subsidy for the award will be 50% in municipalities in a state of emergency and 60% in municipalities in a state of calamity. In the current rule, the percentage applied to soybeans is 20% and 40% for other activities. These conditions must remain in force until December 2024.
“The federal government is attentive to the problems faced by producers in regions affected by this climate catastrophe and will continue to seek solutions to overcome the challenges", highlights the Secretary of Agricultural Policy, Guilherme Campos.
Producers interested in taking out rural insurance should look for a broker or financial institution that sells rural insurance policies. Currently, 17 insurance companies are qualified to operate under the Program.
Rural insurance is aimed at producers, whether individuals or legal entities, regardless of access to rural credit, who cultivate or produce species covered by the Program.
