Epagri project aims to map and monitor agricultural crops in an automated way
Such data is important for actions such as harvest forecasting, agricultural planning, formulation of public policies, natural resource management, among others.
The Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa) today published the Ordinances that approve the Agricultural Zoning of Climate Risk (Zarc) for soybean cultivation, crop year 2024/2025, in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do South, Bahia, Maranhão, Piauí, Acre, Pará, Rondônia, Tocantins, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and the Federal District.
Zoning aims to reduce risks related to climate problems and allows producers to identify the best time to plant, taking into account the region of the country, the culture and different types of soil.
In the case of soybeans, areas and sowing periods were defined, simulating probabilities of yield losses of less than 20%, 30% and 40%, due to the occurrence of adverse meteorological events, contributing to the expansion of agricultural areas, reduction of losses in productivity and production stability.
As Zarc is aimed at rainfed planting, irrigated crops are not restricted to the planting periods indicated in the Rainfed Ordinances. In this case, the producer must observe the specific Zarc instructions for the irrigated crop, if applicable, or the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Ater) of his state for the local conditions of each agroecosystem.
Furthermore, with a view to preventing and controlling Asian rust, the provisions relating to the sanitary void and the planting calendar, defined by the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, of Mapa, must be observed.
Farmers who follow Zarc's recommendations are less subject to climate risks and can benefit from the Agricultural Activity Guarantee Program (Proagro) and the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR). Many financial agents only release rural credit for crops in zoned areas.
Consultations can be made through the “Risk Indication Panel” platform or on the Zarc Plantio Certo mobile app, available in the app stores: iOS and Android.
