The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, met with the delegation of the People's Republic of China in Brazil to strengthen the partnership and identify opportunities to sell more products between the two countries.
“China is very important for Brazil and for Brazilians. They are our main commercial partner and we are interested in strengthening trade in various products”, commented the minister.
China is the largest importer of Brazilian corn, responsible for a third of the increase in the product's exported volume. Sales to the Asian country were authorized last November and, in December 2022, reached 1,10 million tons. It is also the main importer of the soybean complex, purchasing US$819,82 million in December 2022 or 65,8% of the value exported by Brazil.
The ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brazil, Zhu Qingqiao, highlighted the importance of agricultural cooperation, as well as technology, production and infrastructure between two countries.
“Both countries are at a crucial stage of development seeking new opportunities. We have great expectations for the quantitative and qualitative increase of our cooperation,” she stated.
According to Fávaro, the meeting was also an opportunity to prepare the issues that will be discussed during President Lula's mission to China next month.
Also participating in the meeting were the president of the Brazil-China and BRICS Parliamentary Front, deputy Fausto Pinato; the executive secretary of Mapa, Irajá Lacerda; the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, Roberto Perosa and the Secretary of Agricultural Defense, Carlos Goulart.
