The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), in partnership with the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil (CapaDR), this week established the Interinstitutional Working Group to meet the demands of producers in Rio Grande do Sul. Meetings will be held every 15 days in person or via video conference. Ordinance No. 100 comes into force ten days after the date of publication (25/7).

The objective of the GT is to gather information on the indebtedness of rural producers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, due to the consequences of the climate events that hit the region. The Group will also be responsible for presenting proposals to the Minister of Mapa, Carlos Fávaro, with the aim of resolving the state's agricultural situation.

The definition of a rural producer, according to the document, is any person, natural or legal, who carries out agricultural, fishing, forestry or sustainable extraction activities for economic purposes.

The ordinance also allows the participation of representatives of other bodies and entities, public or private, as special guests, without the right to vote, as well as experts in matters related to the topic under discussion.

The activities will end on December 31, 2024, in accordance with Legislative Decree No. 36, of May 7, 2024, which recognizes the occurrence of a state of public calamity in part of the national territory, to address the consequences arising from climatic events in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
