The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) approved the registration of a fungicide for post-harvest treatment of fruits based on the active ingredients Fludioxonil and Azoxystrobin. The decision was published on Tuesday (16) in the Official Gazette of the Union.

The measure responds to a request from the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA). The fungicide was one of CNA's priority demands for the fruit sector after the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) banned products based on another active ingredient, prochloraz.

For the president of the CNA National Fruit Growing Commission, Luiz Roberto Barcelos, the product will be a good alternative for fruits that are exported, with the aim of carrying out efficient post-harvest control and guaranteeing the quality of these products until their final destination.

“This is good news for fruit growers who did not have any efficient product for post-harvest treatment, such as papaya and mango, which are also widely exported,” said Barcelos.

The CNA has been requesting the registration of this product since 2017. At the beginning of 2020, the registration request was officially reinforced with Anvisa. The active ingredients were already registered by Anvisa, but the product formulated Graduate A+ (Fludioxonil + Azoxystrobina) for the post-harvest treatment of papaya, banana, mango, pineapple and citrus had not yet been approved for registration in the country.
