Given the situation of municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by intense rains, flooding, floods, floods and windstorms, a presidential delegation was in the state of Rio Grande do Sul to accompany and support the local population.

During a visit to the region, the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, assured that there will be no shortage of help from the Federal Government to take care of health. “There will be no shortage of money to take care of transport issues and there will be no shortage of money for food. Everything within the reach of the Federal Government, whether through ministers, in partnership with civil society or through our military, we will dedicate ourselves 24 hours a day so that we can meet the basic needs of the people who are isolated” , said Lula, who expressed solidarity with the families of the dead and missing.

The Federal Government's priority is that all federal agencies are mobilized and acting until normality is reestablished.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), supported by the Ministry of Finance (MF), provided measures to support rural producers who were affected by adverse weather conditions or a drop in agricultural prices. With the measure, farmers will be able to renegotiate rural investment credit debts. The initiative was approved by the National Monetary Council (CMN) and has a deadline for renegotiation of May 31st.

With this, financial institutions will be able to postpone or pay in installments the debts that will mature in 2024. In this context, the contracted operations must be in compliance status by December 30, 2023. This is the first time that a government has advanced and applied the measure support before the end of the harvest.

The minister also explained the first step to access renegotiation. “Any producer who fits the measure should contact their financial agent with the report from their agronomist, contextualizing the situation. As a result, the debt will be extended or paid in installments”, he reinforced.

To qualify, the financing must be supported by the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf), the National Support Program for Medium Rural Producers (Pronamp) and other rural investment programs of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).

The Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, highlighted the importance of the Federal Agricultural Tax Auditors (AFFA) in view of the situation in Rio Grande do Sul. “We would like to thank our auditors from RS and SC who suspended the Standard Operation to dedicate themselves fully to the issue of both states, because there are ten slaughterhouses that were hit by the floods, so there will be slaughter, there will be municipalities with difficulty even accessing animal feed, among others”, he said.

Conab

The president of the National Supply Company (Conab), Edegar Pretto, recalled that at last year's event, the Federal Government's mobilization resulted in the distribution of 40 thousand food baskets and that, this time, the company is once again ready to act together with other partners to guarantee supply to families.

“We are waiting for the demand that Rio Grande do Sul will need for food. We are prepared to act and provide the necessary food here for people in this situation.”

Monitoring Office

Starting today, the Federal Government will have a physical space in Porto Alegre that will function as a monitoring office. At the location, information will be concentrated on federal support actions for Rio Grande do Sul as a result of the damage caused by heavy rains.

The decision was taken during a Situation Room meeting, at Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília.
