Mato Grosso do Sul has 11 of the richest municipalities in the national agricultural sector

The state was among the 100 richest in the country in a recent survey by IBGE

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released the Municipal Agricultural Production (PAM) survey, with data from the richest cities in national agricultural production, in 2023.

According to IBGE data, among the 100 richest municipalities in the country, 67 are located in the Center-West: 41 municipalities in Mato Grosso, 14 in Goiás, 11 in Mato Grosso do Sul and one in the Federal District (Brasília).

In Mato Grosso do Sul, the top 10 richest cities in the agricultural sector are formed by Maracaju, Ponta Porã, Sidrolândia, Dourados, Rio Brilhante, Costa Rica, São Gabriel do Oeste, Chapadão do Sul, Nova Alvorada do Sul and Naviraí. 

According to data from the Siga-MS Project, executed by the Association of Soybean Producers of Mato Grosso do Sul (Aprosoja/MS), in the 2022/2023 harvest, Maracaju produced more than 3,22 million tons of soybeans and corn; Ponta Porã produced 2,39 million tons; Sidrolândia 2,26 million tons; Dourados, 1,95 million tons; Rio Brilhante 1,3 million tons; Costa Rica 721,8 thousand tons of soybeans and corn; São Gabriel do Oeste 1,2 million tons of soybeans and corn produced; Chapadão do Sul 845,9 thousand tons; Nova Alvorada 508,2 thousand tons and, finally, Naviraí with just over 832,3 thousand tons.
