Massey Ferguson is in the final stages of editing the third season of Master Mechanic, a technical reality show that celebrates the agricultural mechanics of its dealership network. The series, with three weekly episodes, which will air starting October 16th, highlights diagnostic, maintenance, and operation skills of the MF 500R sprayer under conditions that simulate daily service in the field and in the workshop.

For Massey Ferguson's marketing director, Breno Cavalcanti, the program's purpose is to demonstrate practical skills and the ability to interpret electronic systems found in modern machinery, as well as to share stories and challenges typical of technical assistance in agribusiness. According to the brand, the challenges were defined by its Services team to reflect recurring maintenance situations, with an emphasis on quick and safe decisions—a critical condition in increasingly shorter operational windows.

Six mechanics selected from the Massey Ferguson network in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Minas Gerais, Goiás, and Mato Grosso participated. The selection process consisted of three stages: submission of a presentation video justifying their candidacy; training and assessment of knowledge about the equipment in question; and interviews with the brand's video producer to assess their profile. The pairs were selected by lottery.

After focusing on tractors and seeders in the first two seasons, the MF 500R will be the star of this year's competitions. The competitions were designed by the Massey Ferguson Services team to reflect common situations encountered in dealerships and in the field: reading fault codes and parameters, pressure and flow tests, calibrations, checking sensors and actuators, and interpreting electrical and hydraulic diagrams. The program is hosted by journalist Marcela Rafael. The judging is conducted by José Fernando Schlosser, a professor at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Adriano Sontag, from the AGCO Services team, and Sandra Nalli, founder of Escola do Mecânico. Behind the scenes, rural producer and influencer Fernando Viana will be in charge.

Advances in embedded technologies define the season's outline

"The key skills for agricultural mechanics today involve the ability to navigate current technologies, having the ability to easily access a computer, and read and interpret electronic systems. Even so, mechanical knowledge of the products remains essential, as these two worlds must work together for accurate diagnosis," explains Bruno Pianca, service manager at Massey Ferguson.

According to him, the same applies to operators, who, although not responsible for diagnostics, are responsible for properly adjusting the equipment. "In a sprayer, for example, a more mechanical boom adjustment is essential for good performance, while technological adjustments made on the monitor are also crucial for efficient product application," explains Bruno Pianca.

The expert emphasizes that the sector is currently undergoing a period of transition. "There are many experienced professionals with more traditional profiles seeking to adapt to the new demands of the field. At the same time, the presence of young talent with technical training and familiarity with the digital world is growing, which facilitates the assimilation of embedded technologies in equipment," he says.

According to Rodrigo Junqueira, general manager of AGCO and vice president of Massey Ferguson in South America, the Master Mechanic program "reinforces the commitment to technical training in the field and to the appreciation of professionals who ensure the efficiency of agricultural machinery." The executive states that recognizing these skills is essential to boost productivity and prepare the agricultural sector for an increasingly technological landscape.

The winning duo receives a trophy and a total prize of R$50 (R$25 per participant).
