Marcelo Figueira takes over as director of fungicides for Latin America at Bayer

Executive returns to the company after stints at Sumitomo, UPL, FMC and others.

Agronomist Marcelo Figueira has taken on the role of director of fungicides for Latin America at Bayer. The executive returns to the company after a recent stint at Sumitomo Chemical Latin America.

Figueira has 30 years of experience in agribusiness, with a career spanning companies such as Sumitomo Chemical, Bayer CropScience, UPL, FMC, Cheminova, and others. His career encompasses roles in sales and marketing, focusing on business plans, marketing, distribution, product launches, and portfolio positioning in Brazil and Latin America.

Prior to his new role, he worked at Sumitomo Chemical Latin America. Between July 2025 and April 2026, he held the position of Senior Strategic Marketing and Business Development Manager for Fungicides in Latin America. Before that, between February 2024 and July 2025, he led assets and crops in fungicides, with a primary focus on soybeans.

At UPL, she held positions related to fungicide portfolio management in Brazil and Latin America. She also worked at Oxiquímica Agrociência, where she led the marketing strategy for crop protection and plant nutrition. At FMC and Cheminova, she led commercial and marketing areas focused on coffee, citrus, fruits, vegetables, and cereals.

At Bayer, Figueira had already worked for almost nine years between 2000 and 2009. During that period, he served as a technical assistant, sales representative, commercial and marketing coordinator, and marketing manager, with activities in coffee, corn, vegetables, potatoes, strawberries, grapes, mangoes, onions, and tomatoes.

An agricultural engineer and forestry engineer graduated from the Federal University of Lavras, the executive also holds an MBA in marketing from the University of São Paulo. His education includes specializations in marketing and irrigated tropical fruit farming.
