Mahindra Tractors, an agricultural equipment company under Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), has introduced the new OJA brand for its global K2 program tractor lineup. The name OJA is derived from the Sanskrit word Ojas, which symbolizes vitality, energy and strength.
The Mahindra OJA is Mahindra's new light tractor platform, focused on both domestic and international markets, including the US, Japan and Southeast Asia. It was developed in cooperation between engineering teams at Mitsubishi Mahindra Agriculture Machinery, Japan, and Mahindra Research Valley, India, Mahindra's automotive and agricultural R&D center.
Mahindra OJA will have four tractor subplatforms: Sub Compact, Compact, Small Utility and Large Utility, covering 40 models with various horsepower (hp) specifications.
M&M Ltd. Farm Equipment President Hemant Sikka said, “Ahead of the global debut of the production version of our most anticipated tractor program, codenamed K2, at Mahindra, we are pleased to announce OJA as the new brand of Mahindra's new line of light tractors. Set to be launched later this year, OJA is Mahindra’s Future Ready approach to tractorization, exemplified by numerous first-class technologies for improved performance and productivity, through which we aim to transform agriculture and enrich the lives of farmers.”
Mahindra OJA tractors will be manufactured exclusively at Mahindra's Zaheerabad Tractor Plant, one of the newest and largest tractor factories in South Asia. This factory is vertically integrated and produces the next generation of Yuvo and Jivo tractors, including the recently launched Plus series of tractors.
Currently, Mahindra is the only tractor manufacturer in Telangana, having invested around 10,87 billion rupees (Indian currency) in Zaheerabad. The agricultural equipment sector employs more than 1,5 workers, with the capacity to produce more than 100 tractors per year in two shifts.
The Zaheerabad plant has the flexibility to launch over 330 different tractor variants, ranging from 30 to 100 hp (1 hp equals 1,01387 hp). The plant has adopted the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) philosophy and culture since its inception, with around 65% of Zaheerabad's tractor production being exported globally.
