On the 18th, Mahindra Brasil signed a contract with the City of Dois Irmãos, Rio Grande do Sul, to build a new industrial plant in the municipality. With the preliminary environmental permit granted—the first stage of the licensing process—the company plans to begin construction in September. The initial investment is R$55 million, with a projected increase to R$100 million within five years.
The ceremony was attended by Mahindra Brazil CEO Jak Torretta Jr., Mayor Jerri Meneghetti, and company executives Sanjay Batra (CFO of the Americas), Ami Goda (CFO Global), Anderson Melo (Industrial), Jalison Cruz (Commercial), and Martin Fallgatter (Controller). Representatives representing the municipality included City Council President Elony Nyland, Secretaries João Luiz Weber (Economic Development) and Edson Maicá (Tourism and Culture), as well as business leaders and local media.
"The installation of the new plant in Dois Irmãos represents a milestone in Mahindra's trajectory in Brazil. We are investing in infrastructure and the future of national agriculture, with a focus on producers. The project reinforces our commitment to regional development, job creation, and accessible innovation for the Brazilian countryside," said Jak Torretta Jr., CEO of Mahindra Brazil.
The new facility will be built alongside BR-116, on Estrada Travessão Ivoti, in the Travessão neighborhood, on a 89.190,13 m² plot. The project encompasses 38.568 m² of built area and already foresees the possibility of expanding by an additional 24.000 m². With the plant, Mahindra plans to triple its production capacity in the country, from 3 to 9 tractors per year. The estimate is to expand the workforce from approximately 100 to 300, adding direct and indirect jobs.
Dois Irmãos was chosen after expansion plans in Araricá were halted due to environmental concerns related to the presence of waterways in the initially assessed area. Mayor Jerri Meneghetti highlighted the initiative's local impact. "The signing of this contract represents further development for our municipality, more jobs, and the prospect of new investments in essential areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. It's a milestone for Dois Irmãos, Rio Grande do Sul, and Brazil," he stated.
With the preliminary environmental permit already issued, Mahindra is awaiting subsequent authorizations to begin construction in September, according to the company's schedule. The factory will combine industrial and support operations to serve the Brazilian tractor market.
