Mato Grosso do Sul ended the first nine months of 2025 with a trade surplus of US$6,3 billion. This figure is almost 11% higher than the figure for the same period in 2024, reflecting the strong performance of agricultural exports, which totaled US$8,17 billion, compared to US$1,87 billion in imports during the period. This further boosted the trade surplus, according to data compiled by Aprosoja/MS.

The term surplus means that the state sold more than it bought, that is, exports exceeded imports and resulted in a positive balance in the trade balance.

Pulp, soybeans, and beef lead the state's export rankings, accounting for over 70% of exports. Pulp remains the leading product, with a 29,22% share of exports, followed by soybeans (25,57%) and beef (15,84%). Next in line are sugar (6,57%) and iron ore (3,96%).

Among imports, the main items were natural gas, copper, boilers and steam generators, and pulp and ethyl alcohol production machinery. Natural gas, both liquid and non-liquid, led the way, accounting for 36,36% of state imports.

According to Mateus Fernandes, Economics Analyst at Aprosoja/MS, soybeans and their derivatives remain strategic for Mato Grosso do Sul's commercial performance. "Inflation rates varied moderately in September. The IPCA (Brazilian Consumer Price Index) rose 0,48%, while the IGP-M (Minute Market Index) rose 0,42%, according to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and the FGV (Brazilian Foundation of Geography and Statistics). Despite the stable macroeconomic scenario, the strength of agribusiness exports remains the main driver of Mato Grosso do Sul's economy," he assesses.

The trade balance survey is prepared by Aprosoja/MS, based on official federal government data, and is part of the set of bulletins that the entity makes available monthly to producers and associates.
