MS Harvest 2025/26: Harvest of the second corn crop gains momentum.

The harvest of the second corn crop continues to advance in Mato Grosso do Sul and has entered the most intense phase of the season. According to the Siga-MS Project, executed by Aprosoja/MS with resources from Fundems/Semadesc, 37,3% of the cultivated area has already been harvested, equivalent to approximately 823,5 hectares. 

The Southern region is furthest ahead in field operations, with an average of 38,6% of the area harvested. Next is the Northern region, with an average of 37,5%, while the Central region registers 33,1%.

The progress of the work coincides with the peak harvest season in the state and is expected to gain even more momentum in the coming weeks.

Weather conditions are now having a direct influence on the pace of operations. The weather forecast indicates the possibility of rain, isolated storms, and wind gusts in regions of the southwest, south, southeast, and east of the state, factors that may reduce the window for machinery to enter the fields.

According to the technical coordinator of Aprosoja/MS, Gabriel Balta, the current situation requires planning so that producers can take advantage of periods of stable weather. "We are entering the phase where harvesting intensifies in practically all regions of the state. Whenever conditions are favorable, it is important to maintain the progress of operations to reduce the exposure of crops to the instabilities predicted for the coming days," he assesses. 

Regarding economic data, as of August 3rd, 40,5% of the second crop production had been negotiated by producers in Mato Grosso do Sul, a percentage two percentage points lower than that recorded in the same period last year.

In the domestic market, the average price of a sack of corn remained practically stable last week, being quoted at R$ 49,00 in the state.
