From November 20th to 26th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) carried out another task force to inspect companies producing mineral and organic fertilizers. This time, the operation took place in Minas Gerais in the regions of Três Pontas, Varginha and Três Corações. Four companies were totally or partially embargoed for adjustments to facilities and documentary elements.

Around eight federal agricultural tax auditors from different units of the Federation participated in the action that inspected 24 fertilizer-producing establishments, of which 11 are producers of organic or organomineral fertilizers.

In total, 10 infraction notices were issued for regulatory irregularities in product identification, non-compliance with requirements, expired products or unauthorized substances. 49 samples of solid and fluid fertilizers were also collected for compliance analysis at the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratories (LFDA).

“We observed that the production and commercial activity of establishments was below expectations for this time of year. Possible reasons would be the high prices of fertilizers in the first half of the year, which are still in decline, however the uncertainty in the prices of agricultural products, such as coffee for example, are also factors in farmers' apprehension when deciding on this investment”, commented the federal agricultural tax auditor Luiz Fernando Barros.

According to the National Association for Fertilizer Diffusion (Anda), the state of Minas Gerais is one of the main fertilizer producing and consuming states in the Southwest and the third in volume in Brazil.

The task force was organized by the Department of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs of the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense and had logistical support from the Federal Superintendence of Agriculture of the state of Minas Gerais.
