An inspection action in the municipality of Petrolina (PE) to investigate the origin of pesticides sold to rural producers in the region resulted in the seizure of 630 kilos of counterfeit agrochemicals and 1,2 thousand liters of fraudulent fertilizers.
The action came from suspicions from the Minas Gerais Agricultural Institute (IMA/MG) reported to Mapa. During an approach, the driver of a truck showed concern and concern when stopped at the tax station. Initially, the only irregularity would be the lack of signage on the vehicle for carrying pesticides, however, when presenting the cargo invoice, the Minas Gerais State Finance Department discovered that it was a fraudulent invoice.
From then on, an intelligence operation was set up by the General Coordination of Agrochemicals and Related Products of Mapa, the Federal Superintendencies of Minas Gerais, Pernambuco and Bahia, IMA/MG and the companies registering the products that helped identify the lots.
At the destination of the truck, 630 kilos of fraudulent pesticides were found. The merchant who purchased the product had his merchandise seized and will face administrative proceedings. 1200 liters of fraudulent fertilizers were also found, as well as fertilizers not registered on the Map, and others being sold expired.
The seized fraudulent agrochemicals and fertilizers must be incinerated after determining responsibilities. The trader will also face legal action for intercepting a counterfeit product and co-responsibility for a crime against the environment and the consumer.
