The Lusófona Microbiology Network, of which Embrapa Agrobiologia is part, was formally published on the 30th, with formal signature at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. The Network, which will be coordinated during the first five years of operation of this University, brings together higher education and research institutions from Portuguese-speaking countries and regions.

The Network's objectives are to develop research and support training and technical services on the study, preservation and bioprospecting of microbiological resources, promoting the development of culture collections of microorganisms and collaboration with laboratories and research centers with strong links to the study of microbial biodiversity.

“Microbiology is the future and will contribute to solving many of the problems of sustainable development. Our goal is to share good practices, knowledge and training. And, with this, we will be able to build networked culture collections, which preserve diversity and serve as support for the development of microbiology in each of the countries”, described the Network coordinator, Paula Morais, professor at the Department of Life Sciences at Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra.

In addition to the University of Coimbra and Embrapa Agrobiologia, they are also part of the cooperation agreement with the University of Science and Technology of Macau, the University of Cape Verde, the Eduardo Mondlane University, the Rovuma University, the Polytechnic University of Mozambique, the University Agostinho Neto de Angola, University of São Paulo and State University of Santa Catarina.
