The analysis and registration of low-impact agricultural pesticides are being prioritized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). This year, 65 products of this class have already been registered, which are important for pest control and because they pose a low risk to human health and the environment.

In 2020, a record was recorded of low-impact products in Brazil, with a total of 95 biopesticides, important tools to make Brazilian agriculture even more sustainable. The expectation for this year is to exceed this number.

Mapa has made efforts to increase the supply of this class of products. Among the measures adopted is the reinforcement of teams that analyze bio-based phytosanitary products and the prioritization of these analyses, accelerating their approvals. Currently, while a chemical pesticide takes an average of five years to be registered, a bio-based product takes no more than a year thanks to these prioritizations. Furthermore, Mapa recently launched the National Bioinputs Program, to encourage the use of biological resources in Brazilian agriculture.

To be registered, agricultural pesticides must be evaluated and approved by the Ministry of Agriculture regarding agronomic efficiency, by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) regarding the impact on human health and by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama ) regarding impacts on the environment.
