LongPing High-Tech, a company with a strong presence in the corn seed market in Brazil, and the Southern China Agricultural University (SCAU) signed a partnership to research new soybean varieties. The improvement program is part of the company's business expansion strategy and will be conducted, in conjunction with the University, at the company's Cravinhos unit, located in the interior of São Paulo.

As a result of the partnership, LongPing High-Tech has already received germplasm with soybean varieties from China and is in the process of finalizing the sending of Brazilian germplasm to Chinese researchers. The Brazilian base, equipped with a cutting-edge biotechnology laboratory, greenhouses and experimental areas, is already prepared to advance studies.

“We seek to always be up to date with the needs of the national and global market, including soybean cultivation, which plays a major role”, says the Latam president of LongPing High-Tech, Aldenir Sgarbossa. “Thinking about longevity, we are preparing to offer increasingly competitive and updated products to our customers. Therefore, this partnership is an initial step towards diversifying our portfolio”, he adds.

“China is one of the countries of origin of soybeans, with a rich germplasm to share. Brazil, with decades of success in breeding, is a very important global market in the grain chain”, assesses Edimilson Linares, vice-president of Research and Development at LongPing High-Tech.

South China Agricultural University (SCAU) was founded in 1909 and is headquartered in the city of Guangzhou, and is internationally recognized for its undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs.
