Inmet's forecast for January 2025 indicates above-average rainfall in much of the North, South, and eastern and northern regions of the Northeast. Areas of the Central-West, Southeast, and southern Rio Grande do Sul may record accumulations below the historical average. Temperatures are expected to be above average in much of the country, with days of intense heat in the North. Check out the details:
The forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) for the month of January indicates rainfall between the climatological average (gray tone) and above average (blue tone) in most of the North, South and eastern and northern regions of the Northeast. However, in some areas of these regions, such as Rondônia, southeast and northern Pará, southern and northern Tocantins, central Maranhão, western Bahia and southern Rio Grande do Sul, accumulated rainfall may vary between close to and below the historical average, as represented by the gray and yellow tones on the map in Figure 1a.
On the other hand, in São Paulo and areas located in the center-south of Rio de Janeiro, accumulations could be normal or above average (blue tones), while Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo could record below average precipitation (yellow tone).
In the Central-West Region, the forecast points to rainfall within normal limits and above average in much of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. However, in Goiás and areas in the northwest and southeast of Mato Grosso do Sul, rainfall volumes may be below the climatology.
As for temperatures, the forecast indicates that they should be above average in much of the country (yellow and orange tones on the map in Figure 1b), with the possibility of some days of excessive heat (red tones), mainly in the north of the country, where average air temperatures can exceed 28ºC.
In specific areas of Amazonas, Amapá, southwest Paraná, east of Santa Catarina and south of Rio Grande do Sul, temperatures close to or slightly below average are expected (gray and blue tones on the map in Figure 1b), due to the occurrence of consecutive days with rain that can alleviate the temperature.
