After replenishing stocks in recent weeks, some processors have withdrawn from new acquisitions, reducing the values offered for a bag of paddy rice in Rio Grande do Sul in recent days, according to information from Cepea. On the selling side, some rice farmers were active in business, due to the need to “make money” and pay their commitments for the 2018/19 harvest.
From June 11th to 18th, the ESALQ/SENAR-RS Indicator, 58% whole grains, fell 0,93%, closing at R$ 43,77/sc of 50 kg on June 18th. The ninth harvest survey by Conab (National Supply Company) showed a slight drop in both national production and that of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the largest producer, which was pressured, especially, by the drop in average productivity. Therefore, the 2018/19 national harvest is expected to be 10,51 million tons, 12,9% lower than the previous harvest. Average productivity is 6.193 kg/ha, just 1,2% higher than last year.
