The effectiveness of using fertilizers and pesticides, in any crop, is related to three pillars: knowledge of the target, choice of product and dose used and method of application. Regardless of the size of the planted area, errors in any of these bases can cause major losses. “The Brazilian farmer has good knowledge and command of the targets and products, but there are still flaws in the application”, warns Samuel Guerreiro, technical director at Brandt do Brasil.

To obtain a good harvest, the use of pesticides and fertilizers must be carried out rationally and correctly without losses. To achieve this, the first step is to know the targets to be fought. “Then, you need to pay attention to the active ingredients chosen. Different targets require different choices. And finally, keep an eye on the entire application process, which can put your application and your investment at risk”, explains Guerreiro.

Among the most common errors are the lack of attention to different mixtures of products in the tank, the wrong choice of spray tip, the height of the boom during application and also the wrong selection of the agricultural adjuvant. Problems at this stage can cause losses not only in production, but also loss of investment, with the waste of pesticides and fertilizers themselves.

“Poor management of the application process causes losses for the farmer and losses occur in several ways: in the preparation of the syrup, due to incompatibility between products, water quality, foam formation and homogenization problems; in application, with drift, runoff, and evaporation before the target is reached; and after application, with rain, rapid evaporation and poor coverage of the target”, points out Guerreiro.

A good result when spraying any crop depends on the correct use of the equipment. This concern involves, among other points, the correct choice of application tip, adequate operating speed, adjusted and constant working pressure, boom or flight height in the case of using agricultural planes, and compliance with instructions contained on labels. pesticides and fertilizers. The instructions on the packaging are the result of practical and theoretical studies that guarantee good results.

With the aim of making farmers' work easier, Brandt prepared the Action Line, made up of a set of foliar fertilizers to improve spraying efficiency. “The products provide essential nutrients for crop development and reduce losses, such as those due to drift, water quality, foam formation, poor homogenization of the syrup, runoff and poor coverage”, explains Samuel Guerreiro.
