Income in Goiás' agribusiness sector rises 20,5% in the first quarter.

The average monthly income of agribusiness workers in Goiás reached R$ 5.562,92 in the first quarter of 2026, a real increase of 20,5% compared to the same period last year. This increase corresponds to R$ 947,23, after discounting inflation as measured by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).

The data comes from the Mauro Borges Institute for Economic Research and Policy (IMB), based primarily on the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD Contínua) from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Income growth occurred in all four segments analyzed. The largest percentage increase was recorded in services related to agribusiness, at 33,4%, with income rising from R$ 4.228,94 to R$ 5.641,71.

In the primary sector, which includes activities directly related to agriculture and livestock, average income increased by 25,4%, to R$ 7.024,59, the highest value among the sectors. In agribusiness, income rose from R$ 2.521,11 to R$ 3.002,83, a real increase of 19,1%. In input activities, the increase was 7,7%, to R$ 6.582,56.

Formalization progresses

The increase in income occurred among both formal and informal workers. Among those with formal employment, the average income reached R$ 7.760,19, a 20,8% increase in one year. Among informal workers, it rose from R$ 3.116,96 to R$ 3.951,32, an increase of 26,8%.

The labor market also showed an increase in formalization. The number of workers with formal employment contracts rose from 605,7 to 611,7 during the period, while the number of informal workers decreased from 480,9 to 463,6.

In the agribusiness sector, the number of formally employed workers increased by 7%, with the addition of approximately 10,7 workers.

The survey also points to an increase in the number of employers in Goiás' agribusiness sector. The number rose from 42,5 to 50,6 in one year, a growth of 19,1%, or 8,1 people. Among self-employed workers, the number reached 194,3, an increase of 1,4%.

Agribusiness expands employment.

Agribusiness was the only segment of Goiás's agribusiness to increase the total number of employed people during the period. The number rose from 208,5 to 216,5, an increase of 3,9%.

Among the activities, slaughtering and manufacturing of meat and fish products registered an increase of approximately 9,5 jobs. Poultry farming also stood out, with 10,6 more workers compared to the first quarter of 2025.

In total, agribusiness employed 1,08 million people in Goiás in the first quarter of 2026, equivalent to 28% of the state's employed population.

Another highlight was the increase in education levels. The number of workers in the sector with higher education rose from 256 to 271,5 in one year, an increase of 6%.

IMB warns that the PNAD Contínua data used in the analysis were reweighted by IBGE based on population projections derived from the 2022 Demographic Census. This update alters the sample weights and should be considered when comparing data with previous surveys.
