Goiás grain production is expected to reach 28,8 million tons in the 2021/2022 Harvest. Released this Thursday (08/09) by the National Supply Company (Conab), the estimate represents an increase of 11,6% compared to the 2020/2021 Harvest and a record in the historical series started in 1976/1977.
The 12th Grain Harvest Survey, the last of the current cycle, also projects an increase in the planted/cultivated area in the State, from 6,7 million hectares to 6,9 million hectares (2,3%), and in productivity, from 3,8 tons per hectare to 4,1 tons per hectare (9,0%).
With the confirmation of the result, Goiás should take third place among the largest grain producers in the country, surpassing Rio Grande do Sul, heavily impacted by climate factors, and behind only Mato Grosso and Paraná.
According to Conab's estimates, soy and corn are the items that most contribute to Goiás' good performance. In the case of soybeans, the State should close the harvest with a 10,2% increase in production, while the outlook for national production is a drop of 9,9%. The projected volume of 17,3 million tons will place Goiás as the second largest national producer of soybeans among the States and the Federal District. The projection for corn is also positive: 15,6% growth in the volume produced.
“The latest Conab survey for the 2021/2022 Harvest confirms the good moment of agricultural production in the State. In addition to soybeans and corn, the bulletin expects an increase in the production of cotton (3,9%), wheat (4,4%), sunflower (9,0%) and sorghum (21,3%)”, says the superintendent of Sustainable Rural Production at Seapa (in office), Ricardo Carneiro.
Also released this Thursday (08/09), the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (LSPA/IBGE) expands the expectation of positive results for orange and grape production.
In the previous survey, published in August, the estimate was for an increase of 1,9% in the volume of oranges produced and 13,5% in grapes. Now, the new projections point to growth of 3,8% and 30,0%, respectively. If confirmed, Goiás's orange production should reach 161,4 thousand tons, and grape production, 1,9 thousand tons.
Another positive highlight is the English potato. Production in Goiás, limited to the third harvest, is projected to increase by 22,6%, reaching 217,7 thousand tons. “It is also important to highlight the prospect of a 3,5% increase in sugarcane production, one of the main items on the State's agricultural agenda”, recalls superintendent Ricardo Carneiro. According to IBGE, the volume should go from 72,6 million tons to 75,1 million tons.
