The implementation of summer crops continues in Rio Grande do Sul, but low temperatures have affected development, according to the Economic Information produced and released this Thursday (13/10) by Emater/RS-Ascar.

In the corn crop, which is in the implementation phase, the sowing rate in the period was slower, rising only 2%, reaching 66% of the projected area. Crop development remains slow, due to the low temperatures recorded at the beginning of October.

Silage corn also continues to be implemented. It is estimated that 47% of the projected area was sown. The crops are in the emergency phase and in vegetative development. Initial development is adequate, just a little less than ideal, due to the lower temperatures.

The sowing of the 1st harvest beans was completed in the Frederico Westphalen region and is approaching its end in the Ijuí region. In the Santa Rosa region it reaches 75%. The general condition of crops in RS is adequate, but there is a risk that lower temperatures will affect productivity and favor the emergence of diseases.

The implementation of rice cultivation in the State is also advancing. Soybean producers are now finalizing the preparation of areas for the start of the implementation of crops for the 2022/2023 harvest, after the sanitary vacancy, between 13/07 and 10/10/2022. The void is the period determined by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), when soybean plants cannot be kept alive in the field, with the aim of reducing the population of the Asian rust fungus (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) in the off-season and , thus, delaying the occurrence of the disease and reducing the number of fungicide applications throughout the crop.

winter crops

Wheat

Emater/RS-Ascar carried out the second assessment of the winter harvest and estimated the area actually cultivated with wheat at 1.458.026 hectares. The revised productivity is 3.210 kg/ha, approximately 11% higher than initially projected, resulting in a production of 4.680.780 tons, approximately 32% higher than the 2021 production.

The weather in the period was favorable for crops, with emphasis on the high solar radiation and the return of more voluminous rains in part of the producing region. The crops have excellent production potential, justifying the increase in productivity expectations. The ears are well formed, with a high number of spikelets and uniform grains.

The crop is approaching the end of its cycle, with 28% maturing. The harvest progressed little, increasing the proportion to 4%, still waiting for the cultivars sown in the recommended period to complete the ripening process.

Canola

The updated cultivation area, in the second harvest survey, is 53.415 hectares, representing an increase of 40,46% in relation to the 2021 harvest. The current productivity estimate is 1.638 kg/ha, projecting production of 87.500 tons.

Barley

The second assessment of the harvest indicated an area of 37.500 cultivated hectares, representing an increase of 2,83% compared to 2021. The current estimated productivity is 3.237 kg/ha, totaling production of 121.236 tons of cereal. The weather conditions, with interspersed rain and high solar radiation, were favorable for the crop, which presents adequate development and good health.

White oat grains

The second assessment of the winter harvest indicated a cultivation area of 350.641 hectares, which represents a 2,08% increase compared to the previous year.

The revised productivity is 2.478 kg/ha, representing a production of 868.741 tons. The crops are approaching the end of their cycle, with good production potential. The harvest presents results superior to those initially estimated, justifying the increase in productivity expectations.

Fruit crops

citrus

In the Porto Alegre region, the Céu orange harvest is ending. The supply of Murcott bergamot is increasing, quoted to farmers at R$50,00/box. of 20 kilos.

In the Passo Fundo region, in Maximiliano de Almeida, the sale of Montenegrin bergamot and Valencia orange and navel oranges continues. The orchards are at the end of flowering, and phytosanitary work for this season has been carried out. There has been frost formation in recent days, but without any major visible damage to the citrus trees. Prices remained unchanged when sold: 20 kilo box of Montenegrin at R$ 34,00; belly button, R$ 30,00; and Valencia, R$17,50.

Peach

In the Pelotas region, the crop is in the fruiting phase. Producers are finalizing the thinning of later cultivars and continue production fertilization, which can reach four, in addition to preventive disease treatments. In some orchards, the harvest is expected to be smaller due to low fruiting; In others, plants died.

In the Porto Alegre region, some varieties are delayed in fruit development, including Maciel and Premier. The Libra variety is currently in full harvest, with a great load of fruit on the trees; The quality of the fruits has a high sugar content. The Peach variety is also added, which has reached maturity, allowing the harvest to begin.

In Santa Rosa, the early varieties, such as Bonão, Kampai and Rubimel, have excellent production quality, good-sized fruits and full plants. Late varieties, such as Charme, Fascínio and PS10711, are beginning to bear fruit. Pest control work is underway, especially cochineal, fruit flies and aphids.
