Inmet: weather forecast for Thursday (6) and Friday (7)

The forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) for Thursday (8/6) and Friday (8/7) indicates the presence of an intensifying extratropical cyclone over the South Atlantic, associated with a low-pressure area that maintains instability over the Southern Region of Brazil. The system favors the occurrence of rain, thunderstorms, wind gusts, and the possibility of hail in the three states of the region.

The instabilities are also moving towards areas in southern Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo, maintaining favorable conditions for rain and isolated storms. On Friday, after the passage of the system, a mass of cold air will begin to advance over the south of the country, with a sharp drop in temperatures, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná.

In other regions of the country, rainfall remains concentrated mainly over Western Amazonia and coastal areas of the Northeast. In the interior of Brazil, the weather remains predominantly dry, with low relative humidity levels in areas of the Central-West, Southeast, and Matopiba regions.

Inmet continues to monitor the evolution of the extratropical cyclone (bomb cyclone) and its possible impacts on southern Brazil.

Northern Region

On Thursday morning, isolated showers are expected in western Amazonas and Roraima, with the possibility of isolated rain also in central-western and southwestern Amazonas and northwestern Pará. During the afternoon, instability intensifies, with rain accompanied by thunderstorms in northern and western Amazonas and Roraima, as well as isolated showers in northern Pará and central-western Amazonas. At night, rain with thunderstorms remains concentrated in northern Amazonas and western Roraima, with the possibility of isolated rain in other areas of Amazonas, except in the south of the state, and in northwestern Pará.

On Friday, instability persists in northern and western Amazonas and Roraima, with rain and thunderstorms. There is also a possibility of isolated rain in Amazonas, northwestern and coastal Pará, and coastal Amapá. In other areas of the region, the weather remains stable, with varying cloud cover.

Regarding temperatures, among the capital cities, the lowest predicted temperature is 21°C in Palmas (TO), while the highest temperature could reach 36°C, also in Palmas (TO).

North East Region

On Thursday, the possibility of rain remains concentrated mainly along the coastal strip. In the morning and afternoon, there is a chance of isolated showers on the coast of Bahia and between Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte, especially on the east coast. During the night, the instability will be restricted to southern Bahia. In the interior of the region, the weather will remain dry.

On Friday, light and sporadic rain is expected along the coastal strip between Fortaleza (CE) and Salvador (BA), in addition to the possibility of isolated showers in northwestern Maranhão. In other areas, the weather will remain stable.

On Thursday, the yellow warning for potential danger of strong winds remains in effect between the coast of Maranhão and Rio Grande do Norte, extending to areas of Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, and northern Bahia. The yellow warning for low relative humidity also remains in effect in areas of Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, and western Bahia.

Regarding temperatures, among the capital cities, the lowest predicted temperature is 21°C in Salvador (BA) and Maceió (AL), while the highest could reach 36°C in Teresina (PI).

Midwest region

On Thursday, the instabilities associated with the extratropical cyclone will move over Mato Grosso do Sul. In the morning, isolated showers are expected in the state, mainly near the border with Paraná. During the afternoon, the rain will intensify, with thunderstorms occurring in Mato Grosso do Sul and the possibility of rain in southern Mato Grosso and southern Goiás. At night, the instabilities will persist in south-central Mato Grosso do Sul, with isolated rain in other areas of the state.

On Friday, rain with thunderstorms continues in Mato Grosso do Sul, mainly in the south-central part of the state. In other areas of the Central-West region, the weather remains stable.

On Thursday, there is an orange warning for severe storms in southern Mato Grosso do Sul. A yellow warning for potentially dangerous storms remains in effect for other areas of the state. There is also an orange warning for low relative humidity in eastern Mato Grosso, Goiás, and the Triângulo Mineiro region, as well as a yellow warning for low humidity in Mato Grosso, northeastern Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and the Federal District. On Friday, a yellow warning for potentially dangerous strong winds remains in effect for Mato Grosso do Sul and southern Mato Grosso.

Regarding temperatures, among the capital cities, the lowest predicted temperature is 16°C in Brasília (DF), while the highest could reach 36°C in Cuiabá (MT).

Southeast

On Thursday, the instabilities associated with the extratropical cyclone will move over São Paulo. In the morning, there is a possibility of rain in São Paulo and in the southern part of the Triângulo Mineiro region. During the afternoon and evening, the rain will intensify, with thunderstorms in São Paulo and a possibility of rain in southern Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

On Friday, rain with thunderstorms will persist over São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and southern Minas Gerais. In other areas of the region, the weather will remain stable.

On Thursday, there is a yellow warning for potential storm danger in São Paulo and southern Minas Gerais. A yellow warning for strong winds also remains in effect for the Triângulo Mineiro region, eastern Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo, in addition to a yellow warning for low relative humidity in western Minas Gerais. On Friday, the yellow warning for potential storm danger remains in effect for southern and eastern São Paulo, southern Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, along with an orange warning for strong winds on the southern coast of São Paulo and a yellow warning for strong winds in São Paulo, southern Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro.

Regarding temperatures, among the capital cities, the lowest predicted temperature is 14°C in Belo Horizonte (MG), while the highest could reach 35°C in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

South

On Thursday, the extratropical cyclone will maintain severe weather conditions over the Southern Region. In the morning, rain with thunderstorms is expected between Paraná and Santa Catarina, in addition to isolated showers in other areas. During the afternoon, the instability intensifies, with rain accompanied by thunderstorms throughout the region and the possibility of hail in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and southern Paraná. At night, the risk of hail remains in Rio Grande do Sul, while rain with thunderstorms continues in other areas.

On Friday, the system begins to move away, but still maintains areas of instability over Paraná and western Santa Catarina, with rain and thunderstorms. There is also a possibility of rain in Rio Grande do Sul, while in the west of the state the weather remains stable.

On Thursday, an orange warning for dangerous storms will come into effect, covering Rio Grande do Sul, west-central Santa Catarina, western and southern Paraná, and southern Mato Grosso do Sul. A yellow warning for potentially dangerous storms will also remain in effect for areas of these three states in the region. On Friday, an orange warning for strong winds will come into effect for east-central Rio Grande do Sul, eastern Santa Catarina, Paraná, and the southern coast of São Paulo. A yellow warning for strong winds will remain in effect throughout the Southern Region, and a yellow warning for a drop in temperature will also remain in effect for Rio Grande do Sul, west-central and southern Santa Catarina, and western Paraná.

Regarding temperatures, among the capital cities, the lowest predicted temperature is 8°C in Porto Alegre (RS) on Friday night, characterizing an inverted minimum, that is, when the lowest temperature occurs at night, and not at dawn. The maximum temperature may reach 27°C in Florianópolis (SC) on Thursday, before the arrival of the cold front. On Friday, there will be a sharp drop in temperatures, with a maximum predicted of only 18°C ​​in Porto Alegre (RS).
