Inmet: weather forecast between February 3rd and 9th

This week will bring high temperatures and rain to much of the country.

The week between February 3rd and 9th, 2026, will be marked by rainfall in the Central-West and Southeast regions, as well as high temperatures across much of Brazil. In Meteorological Bulletin No. 05/2026, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) highlights the occurrence of a heat wave in the Southern Region, with extreme values ​​between central and western Rio Grande do Sul, western Santa Catarina, and southwestern Paraná.

The forecast for the Northern Region Rainfall totals are expected to range between 50 mm and 150 mm, with higher values ​​predicted for southern Pará and the central region of Amazonas. Regarding maximum temperatures, values ​​should vary between 28°C and 32°C. However, in the far north of Amazonas, northwestern Pará, and Roraima, maximum temperatures will be higher, potentially exceeding 34°C. 

Na North East RegionRain is expected to affect areas from western Bahia to southern Maranhão, passing through Piauí. Starting this weekend, the rain area should also extend to the eastern part of the region, as well as areas of the Sertão. Accumulated rainfall is projected to range from 40 mm in eastern Pernambuco to 150 mm in Piauí. Temperatures are expected to remain high across most of the territory, particularly in eastern Ceará and areas of western Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, and Sergipe, as well as northeastern Bahia, where temperatures are expected to range between 36°C and 40°C. However, between February 5th and 6th, with increased rainfall expected in these areas, maximum temperatures are expected to decline, fluctuating between 30°C and 34°C.

Na Midwest regionThe forecast for this week is for rain across much of the region. Rainfall totals are expected to exceed 100 mm in all states of the region, and in north-central Mato Grosso, more than 200 mm are predicted. Maximum temperatures will remain high between western Mato Grosso do Sul and southern Mato Grosso, ranging between 34°C and 36°C. However, between February 5th and 6th, maximum temperatures may reach values ​​between 38°C and 40°C, mainly in western Mato Grosso do Sul.

For SoutheastThe forecast indicates the possibility of extreme events. Total rainfall is expected to exceed 100 mm in almost the entire state of São Paulo, and above 150 mm in the west and north of the state, as well as the Triângulo Mineiro and southern Minas Gerais. Rainfall totals are expected to exceed 200 mm in Rio de Janeiro, with the most intense rains expected to begin between Tuesday (3) and Wednesday (4). Only areas in the north and northeast of Minas Gerais and the north of Espírito Santo are expected to have accumulations below 50 mm. The week should also be marked by predominantly high temperatures in north-central Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, as well as Rio de Janeiro, where maximum temperatures may exceed 32 °C. In other areas of the Southeast, especially between the state of São Paulo and southern Minas Gerais, maximum temperatures remain milder, varying between 24 °C and 28 °C. 

Already in SouthThe forecast is for drier weather in Rio Grande do Sul, with significant rainfall concentrated in Paraná and Santa Catarina until Wednesday (4). Throughout the rest of the week, rainfall should occur in isolated areas along the coast of the region. The total rainfall exceeds 80 mm between the coast and northern Paraná. The trend is for increased heat throughout the week, especially between central and western Rio Grande do Sul, western Santa Catarina and southwestern Paraná. In these areas, maximum temperatures may reach values ​​between 36 °C and 40 °C, remaining between 5 °C and 7 °C above the historical average for up to five consecutive days, which characterizes a heat wave event between February 3 and 7.
