Initiative aims to boost agricultural innovation
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) announced, in its third forecast for 2025, that Brazilian production of cereals, legumes and oilseeds should reach 322,6 million tons. This represents a growth of 2,5% compared to the second forecast and a jump of 10,2% compared to 2024, when the harvest totaled 292,7 million tons.
Among the main crops, soybeans lead the advance, with an estimated increase of 15,4% (22,3 million tons). Corn will also see significant growth, with the 1st crop rising 9,3% (2,1 million tons) and the 2nd crop, 4,1% (3,7 million tons). Other crops that stand out are rice (an increase of 8,1%), wheat (4,8%) and the 1st crop of beans (30,9%).
Cotton production is expected to remain stable at 8,9 million tonnes, while sorghum is expected to decline by 3,2% (-127,6 thousand tonnes).
The year 2024 ended with a production of 292,7 million tons, 7,2% below the 2023 harvest. Despite this, the harvested area increased by 1,6%, reaching 79 million hectares.
Mato Grosso remains the largest grain producer in Brazil, with 31,4% of national production, followed by Paraná (12,8%) and Rio Grande do Sul (11,8%). In regional terms, the Central-West dominates with 49,4% of the total, while the South and Southeast regions account for 26,8% and 8,8%, respectively.
