This weekend is expected to be very rainy in several states of the country, especially in the Central-West, Southeast and part of the South regions, according to the forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

A rainfall volume of around 100 mm/24h is expected, especially in the south and forest area of Minas Gerais, Serra da Mantiqueira, Vale do Paraíba, northern coast of São Paulo, Costa Verde and mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.

Instabilities gain strength in the early hours of this Friday (18) with potentially severe weather in the extreme west of Santa Catarina, west of Paraná and south of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Throughout the day, the most intense instabilities advance towards the rest of Mato Grosso do Sul, northern Paraná, southern Mato Grosso and Goiás, Triângulo Mineiro and the interior of São Paulo, and may even be in the form of an instability line, where storm cells group together and move as a single system in alignment and speed.

Wind gusts above 60 km/h are also forecast, as well as many thunderstorms, with the potential for hail, mainly for areas in the Center-West and Southeast of the country as a low pressure area (trough), related to cold air in the middle levels of the atmosphere, amplifies.

Inmet highlights that this system helps to channel humidity, destabilize and promote significant rainfall and, eventually, gusts of wind in a large part of the country, covering a strip that goes from the north of the South region to the south of the Amazon Basin and also west of the Northeast region.
