From January to October this year, rice exports in Goiás grew 82,6% compared to the same period in 2021. The volume shipped outside the country was 4 thousand tons, an increase of 84,9% compared to the year past, with Venezuela, Senegal and Bolivia as its main destinations. The amount recorded was US$2,0 million.
With this result, the State occupies fourth position among the main national exporters of the cereal, behind Rio Grande do Sul, Roraima and Santa Catarina. The information is part of the December edition of Agro em dados, a monthly publication from the State Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa).
According to the bulletin, national exports of the cereal also registered an increase of 95,1% in revenue achieved in the accumulated result for 2022 (January to October), compared to the same period in 2021. The amount was US$516,1 million, coming from shipments of more than one million tons of rice, destined mainly for Mexico, Senegal and Venezuela.
In relation to rice cultivation, Goiás had planted, until November 26th, almost 73% of the total allocated to cultivation in the current harvest. According to Agro em dados this month, the projection is for a 15,7% growth in productivity, reaching 5,2 tons per hectare. However, the perspective is for a reduction in the cultivated area, registering 16,3 thousand hectares, and in the production of rice in Goiás, which should be 85,3 thousand tons.
Among the main producing municipalities in Goiás, the highlights are Flores de Goiás, São Miguel do Araguaia and São João D´Aliança. Located 440 kilometers from Goiânia, in the Northeast region of the State, Flores de Goiás leads the production and is recognized for the cultivation of irrigated rice, which moves the economy and generates income for several family farmers who live in rural settlements in the region.
The head of Seapa, Tiago Mendonça, highlights that culture has gained more space among the agricultural activities carried out in the State and this is reflected in the countryside and in the trade balance.
“It is the main cereal consumed in the world and this attracts the producer’s attention. With investments in management and technology, farmers from Goiás have increased productivity in their crops, bringing results to the economy, especially in municipalities that stand out in cultivation. Currently, in addition to supplying the domestic market, rice produced on Goiás soil reaches other countries and records, year after year, growth in exports. This shows the importance of the cereal grown in Goiás”, he emphasizes.
