The state of Goiás remains the largest tomato producer in Brazil. According to the February edition of Agro em Dados, a monthly publication by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), the state harvest reached 1,4 million tons last year. This volume represents 31,4% of national production, consolidating Goiás as a reference in the sector.
The main producing municipalities are in the South, Southeast of Goiás and in the surroundings of the Federal District, with emphasis on Cristalina, Silvânia and Morrinhos. Thanks to investments in fruit management technologies in recent years, tomato farming in Goiás has expanded significantly, with the cultivated area increasing by 56,8% since 2015, reaching 15,7 thousand hectares in 2024. In addition, the state has the highest productivity in the country, around 93,4 tons per hectare, achieving a performance 23,5% higher than the national average.
The relevance of Goiás is also reflected in the foreign market. In 2024, Goiás shipped 1,5 thousand tons of tomatoes and their derivatives to the foreign market, with emphasis on tomato juice, which accounts for 76,4% of the value traded by the state. The main destinations include Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela and Bolivia.
The head of Seapa, Pedro Leonardo Rezende, emphasizes that the strength of tomato farming in Goiás is the result of continuous investment in technology, training and infrastructure. “Goiás has established itself as a national leader in tomato production thanks to the commitment of producers, the modernization of crops and the technical support offered by the State. We continue to advance to further strengthen this strategic sector for our economy,” says the secretary.
