The improved outlook for second-crop crops such as corn and sorghum led to a review of the estimate for the Goiás grain harvest in the 2022/2023 cycle. According to the 11th Survey by the National Supply Company (Conab), released this Thursday (10/8), Goiás's crops should produce 32,1 million tons — the latest estimate, released in July, predicted 31,5 millions of tons. Once confirmed, the new result will represent an increase of 11,2% in relation to the volume harvested in the 2021/2022 Harvest.
"It's great news for Goiás. Not only are we going to hit the historic mark of 30 million tons of grains, but we're going to go further, showing Brazil the strength of Goiás' agribusiness, the third largest grain producer in the country", highlights the secretary of State of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Pedro Leonardo Rezende. “The climate helped, but we cannot forget that this is the result of a lot of work and investment in knowledge and technology. In Goiás, we walk hand in hand — Government, entities, companies and producers — to achieve our goals. The results are there for everyone to see,” he adds.
The cultures of corn e sorghum, currently in the second harvest phase, had their performance reevaluated. In the case of corn, the estimate for Goiás production rose from 11,6 million tons to 12,1 million tons. One of the reasons, according to Conab, is that rainfall in the Southwest Regions favored the filling of grains in those later crops and led to an increase in average productivity estimates”. Sorghum production, previously projected at 1,3 million tons, is now forecast to reach 1,4 million tons. According to Conab, the rains and better management of pests such as aphids contributed to this.
Cotton e bean (this one in the third harvest phase) also had their estimates revised upwards in relation to the last survey. The projection for the cotton harvest in Goiás went from 122,4 thousand tons to 123,6 thousand tons. The outlook for beans rose from 284,3 thousand tons to 286,1 thousand tons. Meanwhile, cultures like rice, sunflower, and soybean maintained the numbers from the previous survey: 81,6 thousand tons, 48,7 thousand tons and 17,7 million tons, respectively.
Conab estimates that the 2022/2023 Brazilian harvest will reach 320,1 million tons of grains, a growth of 17,4% compared to the result of the 2021/2022 cycle. In this case, there was also a review of the number released in the last Conab survey, in July, when the projection for the total volume was 317,6 million tons of grains.
Also this Thursday (10/8), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released its Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA). The study places Goiás in fourth position among the largest producers of cereals, legumes and oilseeds in the country, accounting for 9,5% of national production. One of the highlights of the new round of LSPA estimates is grapes. The survey shows that fruit production in Goiás is expected to grow 11,1% in 2023, compared to the result of 2022, reaching 2.162 tons.
