The MATOPIBAPA region (composed of the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, Bahia and Pará) is one of the main producers of soy and corn in Brazil, being considered an area with large farms that rely on the advancement of technology and sustainability in the agricultural sector . This care with production is an extremely important factor for Gavilon do Brasil, a commodities trading company owned by the Japanese group Marubeni, which seeks partnerships with certified farms for the negotiation and export of grains.
"The partnership with certified farms is extremely important for us. With regulatory processes that guarantee quality in production, we can offer the best and with legal guarantees to end consumers. This is part of one of our values, which is to always put people first", explains Max Bomfim, Regional Manager at Gavilon do Brasil.
In Brazil, several farms are certified, a clear demonstration that agribusiness is increasingly developing at a national level and producers are seeking to offer quality in the agricultural production process, in addition to being committed to preservation of the environment and obedience to legislation.
Certifications on farms guarantee that legislation has been complied with through verification, through audits, which check whether all established rules have been complied with. Among the certifications, we can mention, for example, organic, RainForest Alliance, Fair Trade, GlobalGap, ISO, Bonsucro, UTZ and RTRS, each with pre-established rules and criteria to be followed by agricultural producers of different crops. The parameters analyzed include: fair remuneration for workers, zero deforestation, security in administrative processes and compliance with accounting and labor rules.
By establishing partnerships with certified farms, Gavilon do Brasil seeks to contribute to the development of agribusiness and the local economy, increasingly reinforcing one of its pillars, which is strengthening relationships with farmers and collaborating with the surrounding communities where it operates. In addition to its commitment to the community, the company follows standards and protocols that guarantee the quality of the grains, such as exporting products from farms that follow national and international certifications.
