The delegation from Rio Grande do Sul was at Agopa to learn about the cotton fiber analysis processes carried out by the laboratory. The group included employees from BASF and the agricultural company Canoa Mirim, in the municipality of Santa Vitória do Palmar.

According to BASF's market development agent, Matheus Scherer, the objective is to understand the entire process that cotton goes through, from planting to export, and define the feasibility of introducing cotton farming in the extreme south of Brazil. “So far, the responses have been very useful”, he emphasizes.

The director of Canoa-Mirim Lauro Soares Ribeiro was in the United States to learn about the planting process in the Mississippi region, which has climatic characteristics more similar to those of Santa Vitória do Palmar, within the technical feasibility plan.

“We started research trials in 2022 and reached more than 300 @/ha, equal to the average for states with a tradition in the crop”, he explains.

Agopa laboratory manager, Rhudson Assolari, presented the services provided, explained the international categorization of cotton, its intrinsic characteristics, the Brazilian production tracking system and the importance of laboratory analysis of bales. “It is important that they have all the information so that they can start planting safely and with quality. We hope that cotton farming will go even further”, he highlights.
