Agribusiness in Rio Grande do Sul sees drop in exports in September

September records a drop of 34,5% in the value and 43,5% in the volume of agribusiness exports from Rio Grande do Sul compared to August. The result interrupted a four-month sequence of recovery in the sector, which reached its peak in June. The data is in the Foreign Trade Report released by the Farsul System Economic Advisory, this Monday, the 10th.

Soy and tobacco were mainly responsible for the negative result in the relationship between August and September. The grain fell by 52,7% in value and 51,5% in volume. Tobacco registered -31,4% in value and -28,9%. In comparison with September 2015 and the same period this year, the products were also responsible for the -32,3% drop in exported value, with soybeans registering -42,4% and tobacco -51,2%.

The result ends a sequence of four consecutive months of increases in the comparison between 2015 and 2016. Between January and September, the accumulated amount is US$8,743 billion, a drop of 3,64% compared to the same period in 2015. In August, the value was higher than the same period last year. Even with a negative result, the sector's participation remains significant in the total exported by the state, accounting for 64,1% of sales, with US$835 million.

China continues to be the main buyer of agribusiness in Rio Grande do Sul. The September result was responsible for a small decline, but maintaining the eastern country as a major destination for the product from Rio Grande do Sul, with a 38,41% share. In second place comes the United States, accounting for 4,7% and in third place is Iran with 3,78% of the total.
