In the first half of December, gasoline rose 0,48% in its national average price compared to the closing price in November, the first increase after three months of stability. A liter of fuel was sold, on average, at R$6,29 at gas stations throughout Brazil. Ethanol, in turn, was found at an average price of R$4,26, registering an increase of 0,95% in the same comparison. The data comes from the latest analysis of the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), a survey that consolidates the price behavior of transactions at gas stations, providing an accurate average.

“Gasoline was already being traded at high prices, even though its price did not change between September and November. The increase in the average price of fuel, as well as ethanol in the country, can be explained by a set of economic and infrastructure factors, such as logistics costs, which change according to the distances traveled and the infrastructure of each region. In addition, this end-of-year period also usually has a higher demand for transportation than in previous months, which can affect the prices found at the pumps,” comments Douglas Pina, General Director of Mobility at Edenred Brasil.

With the increase recorded at the beginning of December, gasoline is starting to weigh even more heavily on drivers' pockets, especially in the North region, which had the highest price among regions recorded in the period, at R$6,81 (an increase of 0,29%). Only in the Central-West region was there a drop in the price of fuel, of 0,16%, while all other regions followed the national upward trend, with emphasis on the Northeast, where an increase of 1,26% was recorded.

Following the analysis by regions of the country, the North Region, in addition to the highest average price for gasoline, also recorded the highest value for ethanol: R$4,98, after an increase of 0,20%.

The cheapest gasoline was found, once again, in the Southeast, with an average price of R$6,15, despite a 0,16% increase in the region. Ethanol, which increased in all regions of the country, had its lowest prices recorded in the Central-West and Southeast, both with an average of R$4,18, despite increases of 1,46% (the highest among the regions for the fuel) and 0,72%, respectively.

States

Considering the averages by state, the largest reduction recorded in the average price of gasoline occurred in the Federal District, of 4,09%, where the fuel was negotiated, on average, at R$6,10. The largest increase was verified in Bahia, where the fuel reached R$6,42 after an increase of 2,72%.

The most affordable gasoline for consumers was in São Paulo, which reached R$6,07, even after registering an increase of 0,33% in the first two weeks of December. The gasoline with the highest average price in the country was registered in Acre, at R$7,38, even after a drop of 0,40%.

Ethanol had the biggest drop in the country in its average price, of 2,37%, in the state of Pernambuco, reaching the value of R$ 4,53. Bahia also had the biggest increase in the country for ethanol, of 3,17%, reaching the price of R$ 4,56.

The most expensive ethanol among the states was recorded in Amapá, found at R$5,39, the same price recorded at the end of November. São Paulo was the state with the cheapest ethanol: R$4,04 even after a 1% increase, according to IPTL.

“In this scenario, with both fuels on the rise, ethanol still presents itself as a more financially viable alternative in most states, when compared to gasoline, attracting drivers looking to save money. In addition, ethanol also offers more environmental advantages, emitting fewer pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to low-carbon mobility,” adds Pina.
