Chapadão Foundation researcher Alexandra Botelho confirmed the first outbreak of Asian rust in soybean crops, in the 2015/16 harvest, precisely in the municipality of Chapadão do Sul/MS. According to the researcher, responsible for the Chapadão Foundation's diagnostic laboratory, the leaf with rust was sent by consultant Isandro Salbego from the Agromano reseller. According to the consultant, the cultivar is NA 7237, being at the R 5.4 stage (final grain filling phase). In the focus area, the producer had already carried out two applications with specific fungicide to control rust.

The director and researcher at the Edson Borges Foundation had been warning producers about this possible occurrence, as several outbreaks had been recorded in Rio Verde/GO, Carpo Verde and Primavera do Leste/MT and Chapadão do Sul/MS. Furthermore, the climate conditions (humidity and temperature) were conducive to the development of the disease.

The researcher warns that from now on, producers must continue monitoring and applications in the areas previously programmed and, in plots where soybeans are in the R1 phase, there is a need to carry out applications. In areas where soybeans are in the vegetative phase, there is a need to intensify monitoring to make decisions regarding the need for application and which product to apply. Another practice that must be adopted by the producer is anti-resistance management, which comprises the actions that were defined by the Antirust Consortium, which are: always use commercial mixtures made up of two or more fungicides with different modes of action; do not use more than two applications of the same product in sequence and use a maximum of two applications of products containing SDHI per cultivation; use protective products in association; avoid applications at high disease pressure and in a curative manner.
